FAQs

What is a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists are primary health care providers with a significant role in health promotion and treatment of injury and disease. They combine their in depth knowledge of the body, and how it works, with specialized hands on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, disease, or injury.

What do I need to bring?

Be prepared to provide your medical history, and if you wish, bring a list of medications.

How many visits will I need?

The number of treatments will vary depending on your particular problems. After a thorough assessment, the physiotherapist will discuss the treatment plan for your rehabilitation program.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend wearing loose-fitting and comfortable clothing to your physiotherapy appointments. It is important to have clothing that will allow you to move freely during your physiotherapy session. During the winter months, please bring a change of indoor footwear.

How do I make an appointment?

You can get in touch by phone (709-700-1474), email us at info@nlbalance.com, or book online.

Do I have to be referred by a doctor?

No, physiotherapists can assess and treat without referral by a doctor. However, some health insurers require a doctor’s referral before they will authorize coverage of fees. A referral will also be required if you are seeking services for a workplace or motor vehicle accident-related injury.

How do I know if my insurance covers physiotherapy services?

We recommend that you confirm your insurance coverage by reviewing your policy or contacting your insurer.

How long will I need physiotherapy?

Treatment duration depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, and other factors.  Re-evaluations will be done regularly to assess your progress, and your therapist will share your therapy goals with your physician if you consent.

What conditions does physiotherapy treat?

We see and treat patients for a wide range of conditions and diagnoses.  Visit our Services page for more information.

Do you have postgraduate certifications/training in physiotherapy?

NL Balance & Dizziness Centre is proud to have Physiotherapists on staff who have obtained and achieved advanced post-graduate certifications in Neurology, Vestibular therapy, Orthopedic and Manual Therapy, Acupuncture, and Dry Needling.

What is your cancellation policy?

We appreciate at least one day’s notice for appointment cancelations. Appointments canceled within 24 hours may be subject to a cancelation fee, excluding outstanding situations.
